Kiss Marry Kill

Throughout the novel known as "The Great Gatsby," there are many characters that have their own unique flaws and attributes and I will be demonstrating there through the game known as kiss, marry, and kill. The two sets of characters that I will be talking about are the main male characters, known as Tom, George, and Gatsby. We also have the main female characters, known as Daisy, Jordan, and Myrtle.

The first set of characters that I would like to do this with is the males...

To start off I would like to evaluate George. George, better known as Myrtle's husband is the owner of an auto shop located in the Valley of Ashes. George loves Myrtle but she is having an affair with Tom and he is devastated as he loves Myrtle very much. This quote from the text describes George, "He was a blonde, spiritless man, anemic, and faintly handsome. When he saw us a damp gleam of hope sprang into his light blue eyes." George is honest and hardworking and is a good-looking guy which is why I would in fact kiss him out of the three male options if I were to be a girl.

The next guy we have on the list is Jay Gatsby. Jay is a wealthy man that lives in a mansion located in West Egg. He throws huge parties every Saturday and keeps to himself. Jay is in love with Daisy and will do anything for her. Jay is very self-made and is almost god-like to other people in town which is why I would want to be with him if I were to be a woman. Here is a quote to describe Jay, "If personality is an unbroken series of successful gestures, then there was something gorgeous about him, some heightened sensitivity to the promises of life as if he were related to one of those intricate machines that register earthquakes ten thousand miles away." Because of this nature of mystery surrounding him, I would likely marry Jay Gatsby.

The last guy we have on the list is known as Tom Buchanan, a power-seeking wealthy man who is married to Daisy. Tom can be seen as a bully-like figure in this book. Multiple times throughout the story he can be seen as racist and sexist and is very arrogant. In the text, it states, "Two shining arrogant eyes had established dominance over his face and gave him the appearance of always leaning aggressively forward. Not even the effeminate swank of his riding clothes could hide the enormous power of that body—he seemed to fill those glistening boots until he strained the top lacing, and you could see a great pack of muscle shifting when his shoulder moved under his thin coat. It was a body capable of enormous leverage—a cruel body." Because of this negative aura, he is surrounded with, I would choose to kill Tom.

Now that we have done the men let's get into the first woman here in Myrtle. She is Tom's lover and she is married to George who was mentioned earlier. Myrtle who lives in the valley of ashes is a very plain and figured woman who wants to make her situation better. Unfortunately for her, she chooses to be Tom's lover who treats her very poorly. In the text, it states, "was in the middle thirties, and faintly stout, but she carried her surplus flesh sensuously as some women can. Her face, above a spotted dress of dark blue crêpe-de-chine, contained no facet or gleam of beauty, but there was an immediately perceptible vitality about her as if the nerves of her body were continually smoldering." Myrtle is a good enough woman who I would kiss.

The next person we have on our list here is Jordan, Daisy's friend who likes Nick Carraway. Jordan is described as a pretty woman and is beautiful, but also very self regarding. She also would cheat to get her way. In the text, it states, "She was incurably dishonest. She wasn’t able to be at a disadvantage and, given this unwillingness, I suppose she had begun dealing in subterfuges when she was very young in order to keep that cool, insolent smile turned to the world and yet satisfy the demands of her hard, jaunty body." While she has her flaws, marriage will have some disagreements for it to be healthy and overall I believe that I would want to marry a nice-looking woman which is why I would choose her to marry.

The final person that we will be taking a closer look at today is Daisy. Daisy is the woman that Gatsby loves and she is married to Tom. She was described by the narrator as someone who was careless and scornful. Her first words in the book were, "I’m p-paralyzed with happiness.” Which was ironic and shows the reader how she really wasn't happy. Because of this, I would choose to kill Daisy.
